I have known SO MANY wiseacres in Texas doing the same thing. I say this because I was one of them. (Mind you, even the biggest diamondback rattlesnake is a kitten compared to even a tiger snake, and most of my countrymen can't tell the difference between a coral snake and a scarlet kingsnake, but we still have plenty of opportunities with dead dangerous critters out here. The big difference between Texas and Australia, though, is that Texas is just full of critters that just want to maim you instead of kill you. Given a choice between a tiger snake up my pant leg and a banded water snake or Texas rat snake, I'll take a tiger snake any day. Tiger snakes may be venomous, but speaking from experience, a Texas rat snake will make you wish it was venomous just so the pain will stop.)
