I'm currently dreaming about going on a trip to Japan. This was so lovely to think about the remote places to experience. What inspired you to go to Miyoshi?

Thank you, Chris! It was a return trip, actually. I had been there a decade ago on the suggestion of someone I met at a hostel.

I wanted to come back in a car and explore properly. It’s a long way off the usual tourist routes, but I highly recommend it.

Such beautiful writing. You really painted the picture and transported all of us to that mountain town, without the harrowing drive up the winding road. I hope more people see this and visit!

THANK YOU LUCIE. Yes, the harrowing road has to be experienced to be believed.

Thank you for this beautiful article! It made my heart ache for some of the very beautiful, isolated places across Australia that continue to shrink as the population concentrates in our cities. I needed this reminder ❤️

This is such a good point. Funny how I’m more alive to stories like these in other countries. Such a bit problem here, too.

You writing transported me back to Shikoku just like that. I had wondered what the people in those mountainous towns did and how they lived. Thank you for writing this piece! 💖
