A joyous occasion! The Car Pit gets its first rude comment
The comments aren't great, but we'll take them!
Dear ,
I believe the first rude comment on a social media page is a moment worth celebrating. It’s similar in a way to smashing a champagne bottle against a new ship’s bow.
And it couldn’t have come soon enough.
I’ll be honest with you. The Car Pit’s social media growth is accelerating roughly at the same rate as a Mitsubishi Mirage.
Finding an audience these days is tough. I’m not entirely sure what the mysterious Instagram algorithm wants. Maybe little dances? I hope it isn’t little dances.
After a few attempts, I finally got some reasonable traction on a fairly benign video I posted over the weekend.
If you don’t want to watch it, fine. I’m not entirely sure I wanted to make it. But it’s a bit of a whinge about how boring car ads are these days. I said they always use the same premise: friends driving around in non-descript city locations.
It’s the beigest of all beige takes.
BUT it still managed to elicit this response:
And then, a few moments later:
I love that, in Oll’s opinion, there are two potential types of car ads: Those where cars drive on city roads, or ABSURD ones where they inexplicably sink or fly.
Apparently, if you want to reach more people, all interactions on social media are good. If someone comments, you should try to foster a conversation with them.
So, I replied thusly:
He did not respond.
Perhaps you’d also like to leave a cranky comment? Feel free to do so on my Instagram page. You’ve got quite a few videos to choose from.
As for what’s new on the Car Pit?
I had an interview with one of Australia’s most famous drag queens, Art Simone. You might be familiar with her name if you’re a fan of Rupaul’s Drag Race. Art was runner-up in the first Australian season. She’s since branched out into audio and is the host of the ACRA-nominated podcast Concealed with Art Simone.
While chatting I found out that drag queens have very specific requirements for their cars. Read about them here.
Have a lovely week and don’t work too hard!
